To create a Discord account, you need to fill out the required information, receive a validation email, and then you can choose your username. If you want to change your username, you can do so from the settings on the website or desktop application by tapping on the gear icon, or from the mobile app by tapping on your profile image. However, if you want to change the unique identifier numbers associated with your username, you need to have a paid Nitro account. Discord Nitro also offers additional features for a price, such as more emojis, multiple profiles, and the ability to choose your unique identifier numbers.
We can choose the name in Discord by creating a new account. When you have already downloaded the application on your computer or phone or directly from the web version without having to leave the browser. The steps are very simple.
To create an account you will have to fill out
- Username
- Password
- Birthdate
- Accept the terms of service
Once you fill everything in, tap “Continue”. We will receive an email notification and a link that allows us to validate the account and start using it. We will have chosen a user but, as we will see in the next paragraphs, we can change the Discord name.
Change the name or nickname
If we have already created an account or we already have one but we do not like the name we haveYes, we can change it by accessing its settings without the need to create another one. We can do it from the application or from the web version.
From the web page or desktop
If we want to change the Discord username from the website or from the computer application, the desktop version of the program, the steps are as follows:
- We open the program or web page on our computer
- We look for the gear icon at the bottom of the page
- We will enter the Discord settings
- We go to the menu on the left side of the screen
- In “User settings” we look for the section “My account”
Here we will enter a section where we can change our profile photo, our username, our email, our phone number… As you see in the image, we can see all the settings along with an “Edit” button that allows us modify all the details. In our case, we must tap on “To edit” next to the username button and a new window will open here.
You will see a new window in Discord that tells us “Enter a new username and your existing password” You will have to fill in the data with the new name and you will have to confirm the process with the key you use for Discord. We will also see that there is a set of numbers on the right side. A series of numbers preceded by a label and whose “mission” is to differentiate us from other users on the platform in case there are two people with the same name or nickname. We cannot change the set of numbers or identifier if we have a free account, but you can modify it if you have a paid Discord account.
Once you have completed the entire process to change it, confirm “Done”. Your name in Discord will automatically change and you will be able to identify yourself with the new one.
Change from mobile phone
If you have the Discord application on your mobile phone, we can change it from the settings without having to go to the website or without having to download the desktop app. We simply have to download the app for our smartphone and log in with our email and password.
Within the application we have to go to the lower right corner of the screen to tap on our profile image and the user settings will open. Here we will see a list with options such as setting status, my account, privacy and security, authorized applications, connections… And the second is the one that interests us. We have to tap on “My account” to open the settings and to change the name in Discord or the user nickname that we have in the program.
Once we have entered our account settings we will see a series of similar options and menus to those on the website: profile photo, username, email linked to the account, telephone number, change password and at the bottom we can activate or deactivate two-factor authentication.
The one that interests us, logically, is the first. We tap on “Username” from the Discord application and we can choose our username. As in the previous case, we can choose our new name and on the right the label will appear with the corresponding code that will differentiate us in case another user has the same name as us and we want to distinguish ourselves from each other when using Discord.
Once we have done this, we will see our new name and it will appear changed in Discord for all users.
Change label
As we have explained in previous paragraphs, We can only change the label if we have a payment account.
