Microsoft has launched a new service in Teams called Microsoft Mesh, aimed at making virtual meeting activities more interactive. This new hybrid way of working allows employee avatars to have virtual meetings in the same place, even if they are actually in different locations. The feature has been tested in consulting companies like Accenture and Takeda, with Takeda’s Chief Technology Officer emphasizing the importance of human relationships in the workplace. The platform provides customizable rooms and uses Unity, Microsoft’s development platform, to create virtual worlds. Microsoft Mesh is currently available on desktop PCs and Meta Quest VR devices, with a six-month free trial for business and enterprise plans. After the trial, prices will be set at $4 for Microsoft Teams Essentials and $57 for Microsoft 365 ES users per month.

As is known, now various companies have started to return to normal by encouraging employees to return to the office after the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Microsoft through Mesh in Teams offers a new hybrid way of working.

Microsoft has tested this feature in various companies. For example, in consulting companies Accenture and Takeda which focus on pharma, as reported by Engadget.
Takeda’s Chief Technology Officer, Leo Barella, explained that the world of work continues to develop rapidly, but human relationships are important to create success, even in the workplace.
“Lunchtime conversations, hallway chats, chats over coffee are often the key to workplace success and employee happiness,” said Leo.
The new platform also provides a series of rooms that companies can use and customize with everything from informational videos to logos, without having to enter any specific code.
The Mesh Toolkit works using Unity, Microsoft’s 2D and 3D development platform, to make virtual worlds better. To illustrate, if there is a retreat activity that everyone has always wanted to participate in, they can create a version of it and invite everyone’s avatars.
Currently, Microsoft Mesh is only available on desktop PCs and Meta Quest VR devices, if employees want a more immersive experience. Microsoft is offering a six-month free trial to anyone with a business or enterprise plan.
